A 64-bit computer
macOS on Apple silicon or Intel, Windows 10 or 11, or Linux.
8 GB of memory
Enough for TaskForce itself. A local AI model needs more, see below.
A free TaskForce account
Created when you first open the app, or the one you already use on the web app.
An agent, if you delegate
Claude Code installed and signed in with your own account, or GitHub Copilot's coding agent.
On first launch, TaskForce looks for Ollama on your computer and lists the models you have. You can also add an API key from OpenAI, Groq, Mistral, OpenRouter, LM Studio or any OpenAI-compatible service, or skip this step: everything except the AI features works without a model.
| Your computer | Suggested local model | Works well for |
|---|---|---|
| No graphics card, 8 GB | A small 3B to 4B model, or an API key | Short summaries and rewording |
| No graphics card, 16 GB | A 7B to 8B model | Chat, summaries, simple breakdowns |
| 8 GB graphics card, or Apple silicon with 16 GB | An 8B model | The assistant with tools, analyses |
| 12 GB graphics card or more, or Apple silicon with 32 GB | A 14B model | Finer reasoning and breakdowns |
On a small machine, the assistant with tools can be slow. An API key is the easy way around it, and you can switch at any time in the settings.
The first builds are not code-signed yet, so your system warns you before opening an app it does not know. The code is open on GitHub if you want to check what you install.
macOS
If macOS blocks the app, open System Settings, then Privacy and Security, and choose Open Anyway next to TaskForce.
Windows
If SmartScreen shows “Windows protected your PC”, choose More info, then Run anyway.
Linux
Make the AppImage executable (chmod +x) and open it, or install the .deb with your package manager.
The notes of each desktop release will be published here and on GitHub.
Coming from the TaskForce web app?
Export your projects from the web app and bring them into the desktop app.
